Bob
Blakeley, Canadian Author, is searching for his ancestors,
can you help?
Bob
writes:
"I
almost feel off my chair when I discovered your web
site this morning.
My full name is Robert Alexander Blakeley,
father Robert Gordon Blakeley, mother
Torah Waring. My maternal grandmother
was Emily (Waring) Haviland.
Mom, dad and granny all came from the Toronto area and
that is just about all I know. I believe my grandfather
served in the Canadian cavalry in World War One, I have
his sword. One grandfather was an Olympic class runner...there
are several medals from the 1908 Olympic trials. An
Art Blakeley worked for Eatons for at least 25 years
and I have his mantle clock complete with sterling silver
plaque.
My dad worked for the Billes Brothers and received the
very first CTC franchise in London, Ontario, where I
was born in 1950 and raised. Dad had a brother Lou but
when he died we totally lost touch. He had three kids,
Bruce, David and I am sad to say I can't remember my
third cousin's name.
Although I am a historical author, and about to become
a Canadian best seller, I am absolutely terrible at
doing research and genealogy just totally baffles me.
I would be thrilled if any of the above rings a bell
with all of your members.
I have tried several on line searches without any success.
Have a great day, I look forward to your reply."
If
anyone has any leads for Bob, or any helpful information
please forward it on to us at blakeley@one-name.org

Other
members who have shared their research and would love
to hear from anyone else with any further information
include:
Robert
Blakeley who lives in Australia but has American ancestors,
Robert wrote:
"I
am at the beginning of a search for the antecedents
of my great grandfather James O. Blakeley
who (according to the 1880 census in California) was
born in Ohio in 1838 and was a teacher in Visalia, California
in 1880 (and was subsequently buried there).
His
parents both were both born in New York and had a farm
near East Aurora. In October, 1863, James married Jane
L. Bowen of New York , whose ancestry for about
15 generations starting in Wales is published. We have
more details somewhere on James' parents, who apparently
raised several children on their New York farm.
I
was born and raised in California, but came to Australia
with my wife and children in 1965. The spelling "Blakeley"
appears to be relatively unusual in Australia and in
the United States, and this led me to hope that we might
be able to trace the family tree further. I recently
heard that "Blakeley" occurred uncommonly
frequently near Bristol, and it was a revelation read
The History of the Blakeley's on the Study Group's web
pages and to see the frequency of occurrence of this
spelling in your database."
